2003 Châteauneuf du Pape, Cuvée de Mon Aïeul from the Cellars of Park B. Smith
We recently had the pleasure of enjoying a 2003 bottle of Châteauneuf du Pape, Cuvée de Mon Aïeul.
This exceptional, rich, and complex bottle of wine offered notes of raspberry, licorice, spice, and charred wood.
Our bottle came from the cellars of Park B. Smith, a close friend of influential wine critic Robert Parker and a passionate wine collector who at one time had amassed a collection of around 85,000 bottles of wine which he meticulously stored in his 8,000 sq. ft. wine cellar in Lakeville, Connecticut.
Most wine connoisseurs and collectors can only dream of having such a wine cellar and wine collection, including us.
For those wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs interested in learning more about Park B. Smith, there are two very inspiring articles that have been written and published online about one of the world's finest and most generous wine collectors. The first article from Eric Asimov of the New York Times was published in 2007, and the second article from Jamie Ritchie of Sotheby's was published in 2020.
We'd be remiss if we didn't recognize and give a special thank you to Linda Smith, Park's wife, for her kindness and generosity shown to our photographer, Jim Fuhrmann, during a recent photo shoot on her property in Lakeville, CT. She is one of the most kindest and affable person one could ever meet.■
